Somewhere a Band is Playing (2007)

Somewhere a Band is Playing is a novella which took around fifty years to appear in print, making its debut in two different books:

Somewhere a Band is Playing - a limited edition volume from Gauntlet Press, containing the novella and a collection of early drafts and script fragments

Now and Forever: Somewhere a Band is Playing & Leviathan '99 - a mass market volume from Wm Morrow, containing the novella and an unrelated novella called Leviathan '99

History

According to Jon Eller (2004), the novella Somewhere a Band is Playing had its origins in the "Green Town" materials Bradbury was developing in the 1940s and 1950s. Early draft versions of Somewhere draw upon characters and settings from the early papers that became Dandelion Wine (1957) and its sequel Farewell Summer (2007).

According to Bradbury, Somewhere originated as an idea for a film vehicle for the actress Katharine Hepburn.
